Frequently asked questions.
HOW LONG BEFORE THE CEREMONY SHOULD I BOOK YOU?
The earlier the better. I'm a sucker for organization so as soon as I can lock in your date the happier I’ll be. Don’t have a date yet? That's fine, I can still chat to you and run you through how everything will work. The only set rule is for weddings… We have to meet no later than a month before the big day as we have to fill in the Notice of Intended Marriage.
WHERE AND WHEN CAN I HAVE MY CEREMONY?
Any time, any place.
DO YOU TRAVEL?
Yep I sure do. I travel within 30km of Sydney. I can travel further than that or even interstate for an extra fee.
WHAT DO YOU WEAR?
I ask you what your color palette is then I will dress to match. I want my look to reflect your vibe so this is a discussion we have together
WHAT HAS TO BE LEGALLY INCLUDED IN OUR WEDDING?
There are very few legal requirements in a ceremony that you must include. Other than these listed below, we’re free to do whatever you want.
The celebrant must say the Monitum – a legal statement
You must say a line each – mandatory vows
We must sign 3 marriage certificates ( 2 witnesses over 18 to sign as well)
HOW DO WE APPLY FOR OUR MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
So, on the big day , you'll sign paperwork that your marriage celebrant will send to the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages in the state that your ceremony took place (which may not be the state you live in). I can then apply for your official Registered Marriage Certificate on your behalf, at the same time they lodge this paperwork. The fee charged by the BDM in NSW is $60. Once you get this registered marriage certificate, you can use it to change your last name/s if that's what you want to do
On the day of your ceremony, I will also give you a commemorative marriage certificate which is nice but it won't get you far in terms of the legal stuff.
HOW DO I CHANGE MY NAME?
I can't do this for you, getting married doesn't actually change your surname (don’t forget you need to sign your marriage certificates in your maiden name) However, I can certainly give you guidance with this . I know it's a real pain to try and navigate.
WILL YOU PLAY THE MUSIC AT THE CEREMONY?
Many celebrants opt to not be in charge of the music as we need to concentrate on the legal stuff.
My PA system, however, does enable music so if you want to plug into my speakers and have a friend or family member be in control of this you are most welcome.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE MY DAD WALK ME DOWN THE AISLE?
If you want to but you don’t have to, you can have whoever you want walk you down. You could walk down alone or not walk down any sort of aisle at all. The choice is yours!
DO I HAVE TO HAVE RITUALS OR READINGS?
You don’t have to do anything you don't want to do. Readings and rituals are a nice way to include special friends and family that don’t have a ‘role’ in your wedding.
If you have young children there are a few rituals I recommend to include to get the little ones involved so hit me up for some ideas.
Nothing is mandatory though we don’t have to have any rituals or readings if this isn't your vibe.
HOW DO WE WRITE OUR VOWS?
You don’t have to write your own vows. We can stick to the legal ones or I can write some for you but if you do want help to write your own I can absolutely guide you along the way and give you some ideas. I love this stuff. It would be my pleasure
